Vegetables

There's a lovely farmer's market in Riverside. I thought my father was coming to visit this weekend and so I bought ingredients for stew and for salad and for side dishes. Turns out, I got the dates wrong. My father's coming next weekend. I guess I'll be eating well this week.

I love beet leaves. Did you make a salad with them?

It looks as though you've got some fruit in your vegetables, including those grandaddy avocados. How are you going to prepare the cherimoya?

Yum! Wish I was coming to visit.

We always called them (cherimoyas) custard apples. They were a childhood treat--we would get them when we visited Nairobi. (I guess they didn't grow in other parts of Kenya.) Anyway, I can't even think of the last time I ate one; so I was pretty excited to see them in the farmer's market here. They're grown local too.

I just eat them raw. How do you prepare cherimoya?

Alas, no salad with the beet leaves. I cook them lightly and eat them with lemon juice.

I have to say--I am loving the fresh carrots. They are so good!
